Veramar Vineyard is located off of Rt 7 in the northern Shenandoah Valley AVA of Virginia. Right over the Blue Ridge Mountains from Loudoun County, Veramar is a short drive from Leesburg or Winchester, and easily accessible from Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Frederick, MD, Harpers Ferry, WV, and the Interstate 81 corridor. Here at Veramar we combine traditional French techniques with American innovation. We are always striving to capture the unique expression of our estate grapes through meticulous winemaking. We feel our role in winemaking is to maximize the distinct character of our vineyard and believe in a strong link between vineyard and winery, considering terroir and winemaking equally important in creating exceptional wine.
We started going to Veramar in 2019 and loved it. Unfortunately, we quit the wine club for several reasons: As I noted in my intro about me, Kelly & I prefer only Reds, so when we joined the club, we were assured that we would be given only reds and in the event a white was in the pack, we could surely switch it. Well, that wasn’t the case. The Wine Pourers did not want to deal with us because when we wanted to swap a white for a red (same pricing mind you), they wanted to charge us an additional $15. Ridiculous. They had fire pit’s but it was $50 to rent one. WHAT? Who does that? In addition, you can’t bring in outside food. It was a shame because we really liked the wines.
Here is our original post: Cab Franc is the reason we became members. Merlot is excellent; smooth and easy drinking. Very distinctive taste
The Red Rooster was lovely with nose of black pepper and lavender. We really enjoyed this.
The Rose was excellent.
We went back on April 9, 2019 and here are those notes:
Chardonnay is way too sweet w. honey notes. Seyval blanc also was too sweet. (note, we don’t like whites anyway). The Riesling was a nice drinking wine for the summer. Maybe my palate is tasting the sweetness today. This is less sweet but still has that whole mouth feel
2017 Cab Franc is wonderful. Yum!
Red Rooser is still good. A little more complex and a little more stout. We think it’s from the Malbec being pulled over. Definitely a drinkable wine w. heavy meats and steaks.
Cab Sauv is still awesome. Perfect w. a steak
2017 Ameritage Reserve. Mostly cab sauv w. merlot and malbec. Cherry notes. Kelly said black cherry. I love it. Kelly said it’s cab sauv on steroids
1/26/2020 – 2018 Ameritage is very, very jammy. Goes better w. food. Still good but needs to be aged a bit. Red Rooster is still great. The found is perhaps the best wine we’ve had. Very delicious and smooth.
8/16/2020 – Picked up order and decided to sit and have a bottle of JB Cab Franc. Delicious w. peppery notes.
10/25/2020 – Pick-up but decided to stay and have the mulled wine. The scenery is spectacular
