This is a very cool place. The winery is actually built into a rock so it’s cool year round. They are very much into dogs and have a couple ponds on the property for dogs to go swimming. We brought Albert out here on a hot summer day and he went in and dropped down into the water. We discovered that Albert isn’t much of a water dog. He’s not a fetch dog either. He’s just Albert, the wonder dog and we love him
So let’s get into the wines! First time we came was 9/24/21
2018 Captains Cuvee – and a meaty brown GSM blend. *again, note that i dictate rather than type so it’s always a crap shoot*. Medium body, ruby color with notes of black cherry currents, oak, vanilla and clove. Long finish. 43% Syrah, 43% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache. Kelly thought it was too oaky and clovey on the first taste but then he thought was ok. I thought it tasted like bug spray.
2018 Cab Franc – Hmmm. I like this. Kelly says, ooooh. nice spice. We’re buying this
2018 petite Verdot – dark ruby in color, blueberry and blackberry on the nose followed by a forest floor. Black plums, cherry, currant and vanilla with baking spaces. Long finish. It’s aged in French and American oak. Weird aftertaste. Like it hasn’t finished. Per Kelly, it’s young.
2018 Rhapsody in Red – light through the red with notes of strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb and red plums. Subtle hints of white pepper and baking spices. A blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, petite Verdot and petite manseng – it’s delicious but again, has a strange aftertaste. Kelly said that it’s ok but we’re not buying it.
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon reserve – aged for an extra year in American and French oak. Notes of black currant, plum, pepper and baking spices. Earthy with a touch of leather and vanilla. 100% Cabernet. Oh. Kelly really digs this one. I think we’re buying it. Complex tannins and just the right hint of spice. I love the nose.
2018 Tannat – deep purple, dark and inky, this one exhibits snakes leather and vanilla with currant and black cherry and a subtle hint of nutmeg and clove. American oak. Per Kelly, this is a good tannat.
Port style wine – it’s ok. Doesn’t seem to have that brandy bite
All in all, super nice people and delicious wines
