Amazing reds
Must go back in December for the petite Verdot
10/15/22
Well we didn’t go back in December 2019. And then the world shut down in 2021 and now we’re finally back. We’re looking forward to tasting the reds and are sitting down on the sofas waiting for the winemaker to bring us out our order. I think she forgot. Well apparently she did forget, Kelly went up there and we got a taste of the port as complementary and apologies. And some chocolate.
Oh! The port is really good. The brand is not overpowering and you definitely taste wine. It’s not overly sweet and it’s really very nice.
Todays tasting:
2015 chambourcin – Definitely dark cherry on the nose. Raspberries, little vanilla and less spice. Lingering long finish
2017 chambourcin – Siri very different nose. Earthy, wet leaves for sure. Black cherry. Lots of dark fruit. Amazing how a year can make a huge difference. I love the 2017. Kelly prefers the 17 more two. 15 does have its place it’s a different one very limited vertical years
2015 cab franc – surprise by the owner – holy crap. The nose is everything I want in a cab franc. I just wanna sit here and stick my nose in this glass. OK, I know that sounds weird. This is perhaps the best I have had. Very smooth and delicious. I think that died and gone to heaven from heaven.
2016 cab franc – Kelly isn’t getting that much on the nose on the 16. He said it’s a little more tart on the front end and a little more on the pepper side. If I didn’t try the 15 I would say it’s great. But frankly, it’s not as smooth and silky. Not enough depth
2017 cab franc – hmm. I kinda like the nose on this better than the 16. I’m always amazed at how one grape can change each year. Kelly gets nothing on the news but then again she was reading something about Albert and I blamed that. Now he’s faking his allergy. He said Alberts keeping him from smelling the wine. Now he tasted the wine. Absolutely different from the other two. It’s much younger much younger yeah almost like a tart sour unfinished. I have to agree with him. Please don’t tell anybody I agreed with him.
Blended red. 60% cab franc, Petite Fredo is 20% and Chambourcin is 20%. Kelly thinks it’s way too sweet too much strawberry it could be made by 18-year-old. Maraschino cherries. He’s a hater. I kind of find it interesting. I like it and hate it in the same breath. Kelly said I need to see somebody about this.
